# Editing Product Images With the Image Editor

<LearningObjectives>

- **Locate** the Image Editor and name its main operations.
- **Combine** crop and add-to-background into a product-shot workflow.
- **Review** AI results before you publish them.

</LearningObjectives>

# Clean Product Photos for Strum & Co

Product photos rarely arrive ready for the storefront. Backgrounds are cluttered, framing is off, or you need a consistent studio look. The **Image Editor** keeps that work inside the Administration.

## Where to Start

<ShopdevInstance plugin="lp15" step="DoNotDisplay" plan="rise" />

Open **Content → Image Editor**. Choose **Open media** or **Upload image**. Supported formats: **JPG, PNG,** and **WebP**.

## Main Operations

Pick an operation, let the AI run it, then review:

- **Crop object** — cut the product out as a transparent PNG.
- **Add object** — place a cut-out onto a background.
- **Add shadow** — add a natural-looking shadow.
- **Recolor object** — change an object's color.
- **Erase object** — remove something unwanted.
- **Crop** — set size or aspect ratio.
- **Add to background** — place an object on a color or image background (needs transparency — run **Crop object** first).

## Typical Workflow

1. Upload or select the source photo.

   <img src="./assets/images/shoesdemo.jpg" alt="Source product photo in the Image Editor" width="50%">

2. Run **Crop object**.

   <img src="./assets/images/crop-object.jpg" alt="Product cut out on a transparent background" width="50%">

3. Run **Add to background**.

   <img src="./assets/images/background-colorful.jpg" alt="Product on a clean colorful background" width="50%">

4. Download or save to media.

   <img src="./assets/images/result.jpg" alt="Finished product image ready to use" width="50%">

Stop earlier if a transparent cut-out is enough.

## Requirements and Quality

The Image Editor uses the EU-based **Finegrain** API and runs as a Shopware Service from Shopware **6.7.1**. You get **20 free edits per month**; further edits need an active **Intelligence+** subscription (managed under Shopware Services, as in the previous unit).

<Callout title="Review before publishing" type="warning">

AI results are not human-checked for you. Look for edge artifacts, odd shadows, or color shifts before you use an image in the catalog.

</Callout>

## Common Pitfalls

- Using **Add to background** without transparency — crop first.
- Publishing without a visual check.
- Using the editor when a simple manual crop would be faster.

## Final Thoughts

For Strum & Co., chain **Crop object** → **Add to background**, save to media, and always review. That keeps catalog visuals consistent without leaving Shopware.
