# ChatGPT & Copilot Optimization

# Optimizing for ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Copilot

## ChatGPT

As mentioned earlier, OpenAI is integrating shopping capabilities into ChatGPT. You can still optimize for ChatGPT in several ways:

- Ensure your site **allows OpenAI’s crawler** as mentioned
- ChatGPT may generate an AI-written summary of products for users. That summary is based on data from sources, feeds, and reviews. By **ensuring your data (feeds, schema, etc.) are rich,** you indirectly help ChatGPT's summary of your product be accurate and appealing
- **Test shopping queries** relevant to you. See what kind of summaries and products it shows. It might not show yours, but you can learn from the ones it does show.
- **Keep an eye on the plugin ecosystem.** If a suitable plugin emerges, be ready to integrate

## Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft’s Copilot spans Bing (web) and even Windows (sidebar assistant) – all can perform shopping tasks. Optimizing for it includes:

- **Continue standard SEO** for Bing. Bing's chat often cites sources from websites. If you rank well on Bing and have a compelling snippet, Bing Chat may incorporate or cite your site when answering. This ties back to content quality and structured data (Bing also reads schema)
- As noted, **join the Copilot Merchant Program.** Provide a comprehensive product catalog feed to Microsoft
- Bing and Google both support **local inventory** feeds. If you have physical stores or use Shopware for local pickup, list your local inventory in Bing's programs

In both OpenAI's and Microsoft’s cases, keep the user experience in mind: these assistants strive to make shopping easier. If your shop causes friction (e.g., doesn't support quick checkout, lacks info), the AI might drop your result in favor of another. Microsoft's Copilot even completes purchases in-app, so things like guest checkout or smooth PayPal integration (on your site) can influence whether a sale goes through after Copilot hands off to your site.

Also, I'd like to point out that neither OpenAI nor Microsoft (at the time of writing) allows paid placement in their organic AI answers. This means optimization and data are your way in – you can’t buy your spot. So, focus on making your product the most relevant and well-presented for target queries.
