Shopware Backend Development Intermediate

Welcome to the Shopware Backend Development Intermediate learning path!

In this learning path, you’ll work with practical, real-world scenarios to understand how Shopware behaves internally and where to hook in with your own logic. The focus is on core framework concepts you’ll reuse across projects: DAL modeling, API usage, translations, DI/events, cart calculation, and testing.

Prerequisites

Before diving into this learning path, make sure you have:

  • A local Shopware 6.7 development environment running with PHP 8.3.
  • Completed the predecessor Shopware Backend Development Essentials.
  • Solid basics of PHP and object-oriented programming.
  • Basic knowledge of Composer and dependency management.
  • Basic understanding of HTTP/REST (requests, responses, JSON) to follow the API course.

This learning path expects a normal Shopware project created from the production template. If you are unsure which setup to use, go back to Choosing the Right Shopware Setup.

Shopware 6 certified Backend Developer Intermediate
Associated Certification

This learning path builds extended backend development skills for the Shopware platform. Developers learn to extend Shopware's data model, leverage APIs effectively, and create robust, maintainable extensions. Upon completion, participants can confidently implement and test complex backend logic.

Learning Path: Structure & Benefits

The learning path consists of six practice-oriented modules: Data Abstraction Layer, APIs, Translations, Events & Dependency Injection, Checkout/Cart, and Advanced Testing. Each module combines theoretical foundations with concrete code examples from real plugin projects. Content builds systematically and prepares specifically for the certification exam. Developers work throughout with example plugins.

Certification: Proof & Significance

The certificate validates intermediate backend development competencies in Shopware. It serves as proof of qualification for employers, partners, and clients. Particularly relevant for developers seeking to show their expertise within the Shopware ecosystem.

The Certification Exam

The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions to be completed online within 30 minutes. It tests practical understanding of learning path content – from DAL operations and API usage to testing strategies. Retakes can be booked if needed.
